Cheap Solar Panels: How Much Can I Really Save?

Solar Power is clean and free. However, the actual cost of Solar Energy system installation is very high and is almost always unaffordable for most consumers.

Homeowners can buy cheap solar panels and can dramatically reduce the overall cost of converting your home to solar power. In fact, you can often even find them for free if you know where to look. Used panels are often available cheap from highway departments or contractors. EBay and other online auctions sites are also a good source. As with any online auction purchase, you need to check out the seller’s reputation and feedback before buying.

Cheap Solar Panels are abundant. You just have to know where to look.

While used panels are much cheaper than new, make sure you know what you are getting and that it is appropriate for your project. The panel must be structurally sound and properly sealed so that moisture won't get inside. Moisture collecting inside a panel can greatly reduce its ability to perform at full capacity.

Solar panels are different from one to the next. Power generating capacity will be different. In addition, two identical panels may perform differently based on the age and condition of the individual Solar Cells inside. Older or slightly damaged cells will produce less energy but, these are often still a good bargain if they are in decent enough shape. Therefore you should be able to evaluate the panel or else you’ll end up with cheap solar panels that you can't use.

Most often, a Solar Panel is tested with a volt meter to ensure it operates correctly. I also advise readers to test the underperforming panel's individual Solar Cell rows to consider repairing.  If the price is right, it sometimes makes sense to replace or re-wire around a damaged cell. Thorough testing includes both voltage and current.

Another good alternative is to build your own solar panels from materials that are readily available at your local home supply center. This might sound like a very complicated project but in fact it really isn’t that difficult if you know what you are doing.  Anyone with some basic tools and a reasonable level of DIY project skills can construct a Cheap Solar Panel for a fraction of the cost of buying it new.

There are a number of guides available that show you how to generate solar power using cheap solar panels you build yourself or get second hand. You can't beat the education you get at such a low price because you'll learn how to shop for cheap solar panels without wasting money on material you can't use. Expect to spend about $50, but watch out because some of them are junk.
