What type of house is this?
I plan on becoming a draftsman once i get out of highschool in may....and i was thinking of making my own house blueprints and all that....me and my girlfriends (whom im soon to marry) decided that an inground house would be the best to live in. Due to that its economically friendly, energy sufficiant (since we may use Solar Power paneling or somthing like that), and from what i heard cheap. So anyone out there know what type of house this is called and if you have any sites that show some houses like the one im explaining could you link them?
Yes i know since im going into drafting i should know this but im not going to be an architect. Im more reliant on making money not houses. Ill either be a mechanical, piping, or civil drafter.
And none of that cave shit.....i know what a cave is and i know what a house is and i specifically asked for the name of that type of house.
Only name I've ever seen for this is "Earth-sheltered Home."
They aren't particularly cheap to build. You'll need poured concrete walls, reinforced with a lot of steel in order to keep the wall standing. Wooden walls won't work, they'll just rot away from the constant contact with the dirt. And you'll need big concrete slabs for the roof. It's ecologically friendly, and shouldn't cost much to heat or cool, but the initial cost will knock your socks off.
I used to dream of owning one of these homes --- until I checked on the cost of construction.
